It’s easy to underestimate how small changes in our lifestyle or health can impact our oral health, but with a few simple steps, it’s possible to keep our smiles healthy well into our senior years. 1. Regular Brushing and Flossing: The Foundation of Oral Health

Brushing twice a day and flossing once a day is a rule I’ve always followed, but I’ve come to realize how crucial this simple practice is as I age. In my younger years, I sometimes took my oral health for granted. Now, I make sure to brush with fluoride toothpaste, which helps prevent cavities by strengthening tooth enamel. I’ve seen friends struggle with keeping their dentures clean, which can lead to gum irritation or even infections. My advice is simple: Just because dentures are not real teeth doesn’t mean they don’t need regular cleaning.

Whenever I use dentures or a bridge, I make sure to clean them thoroughly. This includes using special denture-cleaning tablets or soaking them in mouthwash. I also make sure to brush my gums gently, as this helps keep them healthy and free from infection. A clean mouth and well-maintained dentures or bridges are essential to prevent further oral health issues.
