My new dentist who replaced my retired dentist wanted wanted me to have 5 extractions and 4 implants. For a second opinion I went to Dr August who had done implants on me previously. After xrays, Dr. August didn’t see it needing to be done. I then switched to another dentist and now after 6 months of dental work, it appears Dr. August was correct, no extractions or implants required. - Ronald Mallard

Dr. Meredith August, DMD Introduce

For our local users in Singapore seeking information about dental clinics, we present an introduction to the practice of Dr. Meredith August, DMD, located at 575 Boylston St 5th floor, Boston, MA 02116, USA. While Dr. August’s clinic is situated in the United States, understanding the general aspects of a dental practice, the services typically offered, and potential patient experiences can be helpful for individuals seeking dental care in Singapore. This overview aims to provide insights into what one might expect from a dental clinic, the range of treatments available, and features that can influence a patient's decision.

Based on the address, Dr. August’s clinic is located in a commercial building in Boston. Typically, a dental clinic in such a location would feature a reception area for patients, designed to be welcoming and functional. This area usually includes seating for waiting patients, a reception desk where administrative staff handle appointments and inquiries, and possibly informational materials about the clinic and oral health. The treatment rooms would be equipped with dental chairs, lighting, and various instruments necessary for examinations and procedures. Maintaining strict hygiene and sterilization standards is paramount in any dental clinic. While specific details about the décor or ambiance of Dr. August’s office are not available online, a professional dental practice prioritizes cleanliness and a comfortable setting for patients. The fifth-floor location might offer a certain level of privacy and potentially views of the surrounding area, depending on the building’s layout.

As a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD), Dr. Meredith August is qualified to provide a range of dental services. While one of the provided reviews refers to her as an oral surgeon, which typically involves more specialized surgical procedures, a general dental practice often offers a variety of treatments, including:

  • General Dentistry: This includes routine dental check-ups, professional teeth cleaning (scaling and polishing), fluoride treatments, and dental X-rays to assess oral health.
  • Preventive Dentistry: Focusing on preventing dental issues through education on oral hygiene practices, application of sealants, and guidance on maintaining a healthy diet for oral health.
  • Restorative Dentistry: Addressing damaged or missing teeth through procedures such as fillings for cavities, crowns to cover and protect weakened teeth, bridges to replace missing teeth, and dentures for patients with multiple missing teeth. The scope of restorative services might vary depending on Dr. August’s specialization.
  • Oral Surgery: If Dr. August is indeed an oral surgeon, her practice would likely offer more complex surgical procedures such as tooth extractions (including wisdom teeth removal), dental implant placement, and potentially treatment for other oral and maxillofacial conditions.
  • Emergency Dental Care: Many dental clinics offer services for urgent dental problems such as severe toothaches, broken teeth, or infections.

The specific services offered by Dr. August’s clinic would be best confirmed by contacting the office directly.

Features of a dental clinic can vary widely. Some common features that patients look for include the experience and qualifications of the dental professionals, the use of modern dental technology, a commitment to patient comfort and clear communication, and the overall reputation of the practice. The reviews provided offer mixed perspectives. One reviewer expresses significant negative feedback regarding Dr. August’s surgical approach, describing a lack of finesse and a painful experience. This review uses strong and critical language, advising others to avoid the practice. Another reviewer recounts a negative experience with the reception staff and a lack of clarity regarding the cost of a tooth extraction, leading to a decision not to seek treatment there. However, a third reviewer who claims to know Dr. August from years past describes her as “very competent and a nice person,” offering a contrasting positive opinion. This discrepancy highlights the importance of considering multiple sources of information, although the limited number of reviews available makes it challenging to form a definitive objective assessment of the clinic’s features.

Given the conflicting nature of the limited review information, it is difficult to objectively highlight specific positive features of Dr. August’s practice based solely on these comments. The reference to her potentially being an oral surgeon suggests a specialization that could be a feature for patients requiring surgical dental procedures. However, the negative review regarding her surgical skills raises concerns. The mention of the clinic’s location on the fifth floor of a building on Boylston Street indicates accessibility within a commercial area of Boston.

Promotional information is typically used by dental clinics to attract new patients. This can include special offers for initial consultations, discounts on specific procedures, or highlighting unique aspects of their services or patient care approach. Based on the provided information, there are no explicit promotional details available for Dr. August’s practice. The negative review regarding the reception staff’s handling of cost inquiries does not suggest any positive promotional efforts. It is common for dental clinics to provide clear information about pricing and payment options to prospective patients, and the reported lack of clarity could be a point of concern for potential patients.

In conclusion, the available information regarding Dr. Meredith August, DMD, presents a mixed picture. While her qualification as a DMD suggests a foundation in dental care and a potential specialization in oral surgery, some patient reviews raise significant concerns about the surgical approach and the professionalism of the reception staff. Another review offers a positive personal opinion of Dr. August. Without more comprehensive and objective information, it is challenging to provide a fully detailed and balanced introduction to her practice for local users in Singapore. When seeking dental care, it is advisable to look for clinics with consistently positive reviews, clear communication regarding services and costs, and a demonstrated commitment to patient comfort and quality care. The limited and conflicting nature of the provided reviews underscores the importance of thorough research and potentially seeking multiple opinions when choosing a dental professional.
