Based on available reviews, Dr. Kohn appears to specialize in pediatric dentistry. One parent recounts a positive experience where their 8-year-old daughter received immediate care for an abscessed tooth, with the staff described as professional, courteous, and willing to work on a payment plan. The reviewer also noted Dr. Kohn's kind and reassuring demeanor, which helped their daughter feel safe during an extraction. The positive experience extended to their six-year-old son, who is also a patient of another dentist within the same practice, described as exceptional with children.
However, another review presents a contrasting experience, stating a denial of service for a child with a toothache due to an outstanding balance. This review also mentions negative interactions with the clerical staff and supervisor. It's important to consider all available feedback when making decisions about healthcare providers.

Dr. Donald W. Kohn, DDS Reviews
My 8 yr old daughter had a cavity that was filled at another New Haven dentist. A few weeks later the filled tooth abscessed and my daughter was in excruciating pain. Our Pediatrician suggested Dr. Kohn. I called and explained the situation and they saw us immediately as this was a medical emergency. The staff were professional courteous and willing to work with us on a payment plan. Which I deeply appreciated as we are not wealthy. Dr. Kohn himself is kindly, grandfatherly, firm but loving. My daughter felt safe and was able to undergo an extraction on the spot! Poor thing. I am extremely grateful to the staff and the dentists at pediatric dental Associates of Connecticut. My six-year-old son is now a patient of Dr. Kong. Another exceptional dentist with a way with children that I have never seen in a dentist. Mind you my kids still wouldn't consider going to the dentist's a pleasant experience but by and large it's the most positive dentist experience my children have ever had. They continue to be my family pediatric dentists.

How sad money comes first before Child well being. rating - no star had to click on otherwise would not post.I have never been so judged and humiliated before with clerical staff and Supervisor. Jun 01, 2016 · isabel reidTerrible experience. I was encouraged by Dr. Kohn to stop breastfeeding, as he claimed the sugar was damaging my son's teeth. The office staff was very nice initially, but while attempting to schedule services, the receptionist for surgical scheduling was extremely rude. They were more concerned with money than my child's dental health. The Dr. also charges an outrageous fee to go to the hospital (which is the only way they do the xray's and fillings on young children.) After contacting other pediatric dentists and asking about the process of getting my son's tooth fixed, I was informed that it is virtually unheard of for the dentists to charge a fee for simply going to the OR, that is not covered by insurance. the receptionist stated she was aware this wasn't covered and has heard people complain about it for years. Very disappointed in this practice and staff, and I'm glad that I have found another dentist!
Sep 25, 2015 · MarissaI have been going to this practice since I was 7 yrs old. I have 3 children and have been taking them here sine my oldest was 5 and she is now 12. The office staff is very friendly and the heigenist are wonderful! But Dr.Kohn is horrible. When I was a kid he used to sacred me because he was tough. He wasn't mean he just told me that he wasn't playing around and to cut it out when. I would get upset and cry. But the dental care I received was great and I loved the heigenist and office staff. So I decided to take my children here. The new dentist who works with Dr.kohn is great and me and my children love him. But after the last time I took my son to Dr.Kohn we will never be back! Even though we could request to see the other dentist,dr.kohn is the owner and we will not support his Practice! My son has anxiety when going to any doctor and the dentist is no different. He also has behavior issues. He had to get a couple of small cavities filled at his last visit. He got upset and started swinging his arms around. Of course they can not treat him when he is not cooperating! I went and held his hands down as instructed by Dr.Kohn. my son is strong and broke out of my hands and said something(I don't remember what). Then Dr.Kohn forcefully slammed his hands down and said in almost a yelling voice you will not.do that to.your mom.or something similar. Then my son started crying. My heart was hurting! I wanted to leave but I was holding down his hands and he had already started working on my son. I felt so sick in my stomach the whole time. My son has never had an easy time and all he had to do was use the gas to.relax him. The other Dr has previously used a small.amount of gas with him and he was fine and it went great! I never even knew they used gas there because as a kid and previous with my kids no one had ever mentioned it until the new dentist did. No dr/dentist should ever put their hands anyone! That is very unprofessional of Dr.Kohn!
Aug 13, 2016 · kate gamboaSteer clear. The hygienists are not friendly at all, and downright rude. Dr kohn himself is strictly all about the $$$. My 6 year old son had 2 cavaties filled. They fell out less than a year later. He then told us that my son would need surgery and would develop an abscess if not treated immediately. It was going to cost us thousands of dollars for this fix.I decided to get a second opinion. The second dentist simply stated that we just needed to get the fillings replaced and there was no abscess. No type of surgery was needed. To even put a 6 year old through surgery was just absurd, when it was a simple fix of refilling an couple of lost fillings. This brings me to my next complaint. My insurance company would not cover the filling replacements on the same teeth within less than a calendar year. My second opinion dentist had stated that I should return to Dr. Kohn to have the fillings replaced. I shouldn't have to pay to have them replaced by a different dentist. I said no thank you. I would not return to Dr. Kohn if he was the last dentist on earth. I mean that! I would rather pay out of pocket and get my kids fillings redone, at another dentist, than to return to Dr kohn. Steer clear of Dr. Kohn. Please!
